On behalf of Smithfield and IOW Tourism we would like to express our gratitude and thanks to all who participated in this year’s Olden Days. The weather was wonderful, crowds were great and the volunteers were awesome! We added three new events this year, the Paula Deen Look-A-Like contest and the BBQ Cook Off at Joyner Field and the HAMmer Fest, all were well received, and we are bringing them back next year.
A very special note of thanks to Martha Russ, and Smithfield Foods, you showed true community spirit, thank you!
We would like to thank our sponsors: Smithfield Historic Business District Association, Smithfield Times, John Edwards, Town of Smithfield, (Jacob Hodge and Curtis Waters you are the best). Thank you to the Xi Delta Psi of Beta Sigma Phi, (you do much for the community, your hard work for Olden Days is so appreciated). Joshua Goyet, HAMmer Fest, welcome to Olden Days - great job! Marci Parrish and the Olde Town Curb Market Vendors. The Arts Center @ 319 Main St. (our office mates) the crafters, artists and all the folks who bring their cars out for the community to enjoy, we couldn’t do it without you.
Thank you to our Volunteers, David Moose and Elizabeth Moose; David Sawyer; Jaclyn Ramsey; Jim Schloss and Wendy Roth; Carly Ramsey; Ed Rhinier; Kayla Rhinier; Sheridan Hare; Jason Grime; Tom Norris; Linda Berling; Connie Chapman; Kristin Wilda; Mayor David Hare; Russell Parrish; Lisa Perry; Trey Gwaltney; Kim Norman; Jeanne Groves; Howard, Kristen, Kimberly, and Meredith Marchant; Skylar Norman (in many different disguises); Kristina Steiger; Jody Herman; Amanda Jones; Pinky Hipp; Albert Burckard and Val Johnson (our pig is now complete).

Thanks to all of our performers, the participants in the Paula Deen Look-A-Like Contest and the great chefs of the Barbeque contest (some of whom have vowed to switch Dale Steffy’s pork to beef next year).
As always the Smithfield Police Department, the Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department, and Public Works offered their invaluable assistance and it’s so appreciated.
Randy Pack and Win Winslow thanks again for the 3rd Ever Re-Inaugural Pagan River Raft Race. The smack has started for next year...something like “ I have to enter ‘cause my boys can’t seem to win”.
Last but certainly not least the Tourism Team, you ROCK!!! Shake and Bake!!!
